# AppBuildProcOS Executive Summary

## What This Is

AppBuildProcOS is an evidence-backed model of how Brett moves from an initial software idea to a functioning, deployed, maintained, and shareable application.

It is not a generic product framework. It is reconstructed from the project corpus in `corpus_index.md`, the per-project dossiers under `repos/`, and the synthesis files from Cycle 3.

## One-Sentence Model

Build fast where the idea is uncertain; become rigorous where the system must tell the truth.

## The Recurring Loop

Across the corpus, the process most often looks like this:

1. Make the idea executable quickly.
2. Put it into a real runtime when publicness, external services, multiplayer, or deployment pressure matters.
3. Add durable state when memory, history, accounts, or coordination becomes necessary.
4. Watch for places where the system stops telling the truth.
5. Build the missing source of truth, admin surface, validator, test, runbook, or public packaging.
6. Record the decision so future Brett, collaborators, or agents can continue without rediscovering the same facts.

The important feature is that rigor does not appear at the beginning as ceremony. It appears when the project creates evidence that rigor is now useful.

## The Nine States

The human-readable model in `brett_build_os.md` names nine recurring states:

These are states, not a strict waterfall. A project can occupy several at once, skip some, or revisit one after new pressure appears.

## Strongest Evidence Patterns

The strongest repeated pattern is the fast executable seed. Most projects show an early move toward a runnable prototype, game loop, route, scanner, or public surface before heavy process scaffolding.

The second strongest pattern is late-arriving structure after a concrete pressure. Admin surfaces, source-of-truth consolidation, tests, runbooks, ADRs, and public packaging usually arrive after the project reveals what needs to be stabilized.

The third pattern is deployment or shareability as a forcing function. Public apps, games, portfolio work, and operated tools become clearer once they are placed in a real runtime or real audience context.

The fourth pattern is that presentation is not decoration. README work, metadata, social previews, landing pages, publication workflows, and portfolio entries are part of making the application usable and legible.

## Productive Chaos Vs. Avoidable Rework

The model preserves generative exploration. Early ambiguity is productive when it helps discover the shape of the product.

The model becomes more demanding when ambiguity affects truth, continuity, or operation. Rework becomes avoidable when there are multiple competing sources of state, unclear deployment reality, invisible queues, undocumented irreversible decisions, or missing verification for a known costly failure.

The practical rule is:

- Keep exploration loose while the idea is still searching.
- Add structure when truth, safety, coordination, or public claims are at risk.

## How Humans Can Use It

Use `brett_build_os.md` as a process guide. At any point in a project, ask:

- Which state is active now?
- What evidence proves that?
- What pressure is real, not imagined?
- What is the smallest artifact that would reduce the real pressure?
- What should remain reversible?
- What decision now needs to be written down?

## How Agents Can Use It

Use `brett_build_os_agent.md` as the operating spec. The agent should inspect evidence first, classify active states, identify gaps, and recommend the next appropriate work.

The most important agent behavior is restraint. The agent should not add databases, auth, admin panels, tests, or CI because a template says so. It should add them when the evidence shows durable state, identity pressure, operational opacity, costly failure, or public accountability.

## Evidence Caveats

The corpus combines local Git history, local working-tree evidence, documentation, generated artifacts, and two offsite research exports. Some projects have stronger chronological evidence than others.

Known caveats are documented in `completion_audit.md`:

- `fd_demo` is not a Git repository in the local checkout.
- `ids` has limited committed history but substantial current-state evidence.
- `agent828` had a dirty working tree during inspection.
- `SubmissionCockpit` and `KintsugiBlackjack` are based on supplied satellite exports.

## Remaining Review

The file audit shows that all planned deliverables exist. The remaining question is whether the model is true and usable.
